About UsFounded in March of 2009, Rubato has quickly established itself as a mainstay in the neighborhood of the South Annex in downtown Toronto, and is working towards expanding awareness and enjoyment of classical music. Rubato is built from the artists up, and each artist that participates in a concert also dictates what repertoire is performed. The group works together to hand pick a variety of music that will appeal to everyone from the well-versed opera fan to those who have only heard classical music as the background for television commercials. Justin Ralph, Tenor, David Roth, Baritone, and David Chodoriwsky, Pianist, perform "Au Fond Du Temple Saints" from Bizet's The Pearl Fishers at Harbord House on June 22, 2009. Audiences of Rubato hear everything from famous opera arias to Broadway hits and jazz standards. Rubato is also dedicated to marrying relaxed, pub atmosphere with the fantastic music the artists perform. Audience members are permitted to order drinks and food during the performance, which means they can enjoy their favorite beer while listening to the cantatas of Mozart or sip a glass of scotch while listening to the energetic styling of Verdi. Justin Ralph, Tenor, and David Chodoriwsky, Pianist, perform "Whither Must I Wander" from Vaughn Williams' "Songs of Travel" at Harbord House on June 22, 2009. The performers themselves shirk the traditional ball gowns and tuxedos of classical recitals for jeans and sneakers. This combination of casual approach and sublime music creates an experience like none other. Rubato is also available for booking for corporate events, parties, and more.
